This page is here to separate the facts from opinions. It's interesting to note there's common misinformation surrounding Lee's (and in general Tekken's) plot.
These obviously only apply to canon media.
If you want a combination of facts and opinions (as well as looking at all Tekken media), look at my long-ass relationships page!
Nope. In T4, it's stated he was "expelled from the Mishima Zaibatsu". So even prior to T7, Lee was never disowned. Instead, the Zaibatsu was not available to him anymore. I get why this is confusing to some which is probably why they mix it up. Because only the Mishima family can take ownership, Lee being expelled from the Zaibatsu might signal to someone that he is no longer part of their family, but this isn't the case. There's no evidence for him getting disowned, quite the contrary in fact! Throughout his profiles he's continually described as "Heihachi's adopted son", even up to T8.
In addition, in T7 it's stated "After being expelled (/banished) from the Mishima Zaibatsu for unknown reasons", which they set up as a mystery that was "solved" later in Lee's story where he told the jounalist the "real reason" is because he "knew about the Devil within Kazuya.".
Was Lee was really young when he was adopted?Nope. He was 12.

Though Lee was a prodigy both in smarts and martial arts, he was physically and spiritually shattered after his defeat at the hands of Kazuya.
Secluding himself in the mountains, Lee, trained, diligently, rashly, and his talented techniques became less and less precise as he became more and more absorbed in his training, and just when he had given up all hope, a mysterious old man appeared before him, and made him an offer he couldn't refuse. In exchange for his tutelage, Lee would have to do something for him.
Determined to face Kazuya once again, Lee has decided to take part in the tournament to take Kazuya out, even if it kills him.

Note: This is where his fighting style changed to fully "martial arts".
After he betrayed Heihachi and sided with Kazuya at The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Lee was expelled from the Mishima Zaibatsu.
For quite some time, thoughts of revenge consumed Lee. Eventually, he realized that it was pointless to kill an old man, who probably had only a few years left in his life at best. With that realization, Lee distanced himself from fighting and moved into a mansion in the Bahamas to lead a solitary life.
One day, he discovered a huge sell-off of G Corporation's stock online. Lee's intuition told him that something happened within the company. His intuition was correct. He hacked into their classified computer network and accessed their internal corporate communications. Lee learned that the Mishima Zaibatsu attacked G Corporation and caused significant damage to their research facilities.
He also came across information that a new life form under development by the Mishima Zaibatsu would be completed by next year. In order to complete the life form, however, it appeared that they were missing a critical component...
Oddly enough, an announcement was made for The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 around the same time. Lee's fading passion for fighting was rekindled - along with his resentment towards the Mishima clan.
In order to prevent the Mishima Zaibatsu from discovering his true identity, Lee signed up for the Tournament online under a false name. As additional measure to mask his identity, he dyed his gleaming silver hair purple.

My FAVOURITE version of him. I might be bias because I played this game a lot!
Heihachi's adopted son and rival of Kazuya Mishima, Lee Chaolan.
Lee had entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament in disguise hoping to defeat Heihachi. He was quite surprised when his opponent turned out to be Kazuya Mishima, who was thought to be dead, and was defeated.
In the confusion surrounding the death of Heihachi, Lee was scheming to take over the Mishima Zaibatsu but was enraged when he learned that someone else had already beat him to it.
Lee, believing it was Kazuya who usurped the Mishima Zaibatsu, was vexed that Kazuya had once again stood in his way. A month later, the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 was announced and Lee immediately decided to enter.

Just wanna say that Lee being uninterested in Jinpachi meant he didn't try to take the Zaibatsu leading to the world turning to shit. LMAO
Lee Chaolan joined The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 to exact revenge against Kazuya Mishima. Lee lost interest in the tournament, though, when he learned that it was actually Jinpachi Mishima who had started it. He returned to his home in the Bahamas.
The world fell into disarray at the hands of the Mishima Zaibatsu, led by Jin Kazama, and the G Corporation rose as an opposing power. Lee owned a large portion of stock in the G Corporation and their sudden exercise of military force concerned him greatly. He secretly arranged an investigation into the changes that had occurred within the G Corporation and discovered that Kazuya was at the helm, behind the scenes.
Upon learning that Kazuya would participate in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6, Lee used his G Corporation stockholder's complementary ticket to enter the tournament to get closer to Kazuya.

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH I love this outfit
Lee Chaolan has a long suffering history with the Mishima clan. Heihachi Mishima in his treacherous wisdom adopted Lee when he was a boy to create a rival for his son Kazuya. As Kazuya’s adopted brother, Lee was given the same education and upbringing befitting a son of the Mishima clan.
After being expelled from the Mishima Zaibatsu for unknown reasons, Lee founded Violet Systems, a successful tech company specializing in the development of humanoid robotics. Shortly after, the world became embroiled in a conflict between the Mishima Zaibatsu lead by Heihachi and the G Corporation, secretly controlled by Kazuya.
As the world cautiously watched the conflict, trying to decide which side would be most beneficial to support, Lee had his own plans as he had nothing but extreme hatred for both Heihachi and Kazuya.
Lee chose to exact his revenge on the father and son by covertly supporting Lars Alexandersson, who had turned on the Mishima Zaibatsu, but this was only the beginning of what he had in store for the Mishimas.

He only put on 7kg since Tekken 2? Wow.
Raised in a harsh environment as Heihachi Mishima's adopted son, Lee Chaolan now manages the global humanoid manufacturer, Violet Systems.
Lee carries with him a bitter hatred of both Heihachi and Kazuya Mishima, and when he first meets Lars Alexandersson—a man who stands in opposition of the Mishima Zaibatsu—he intends to use him as a pawn for his own revenge. However, Lee comes to sympathize with Lars's honest and excellent desire for peace. With the sincere intention of supporting Lars's plan, Lee teams up with him to form the rebel army "Yggdrasil" and begins working as a staff officer.
Meanwhile, Kazuya leads G Corp and shows no sign of slowing his invasions, despite G Corp's defeat of the Mishima Zaibatsu. The world is being brought to its knees under a brutal wave of military rule. But Lee knows his adopted brother Kazuya inside and out, and he's started to fully use his knowledge and vast resources to develop a variety of weapons.
With the help of the ingenious scientist Dr. Bosconovitch, he constructs the enormous flying boat, "Víðópnir," in addition to developing mobile warfare units using motorbikes. With these, the rebel army is able to start pushing back against G Corp in every region. Lee also invests in a next-gen battle suit perfect for close-range combat that will act as a trump card against the enemy's impenetrable armor. It is called the Violet Suit, a marvelous creation that utilizes sophisticated technologies and is equipped with numerous features that reflect Lee's own aesthetics. Lee struts onto the battlefield in this new armor, ready to take on whatever may come.
